Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion (MDA) is a process of controlled skin exfoliation. Superficial dead layer of the skin is abraded off using diamond tip or crystal MDA. Gentle suction is applied to siphon off the upper dead skin layer, giving you a smoother and brighter skin. Uneven skin tone is due to differential pigmentation in different areas of the face. MDA helps to renew the topmost layer of the skin and improves appearance of the skin making it smoother. It is a minimally invasive technique to improve skin tone and texture.

Microdermabrasion is performed using two kinds of tips. The diamond tip MDA and crystal MDA are discussed below.
Diamond tip MDA:
It is a kind of applicator which has mild diamond cut outs with an attached suction tip. The diamond cuts exfoliate the upper skin layer, which is suctioned off immediately. The suction pressure and the diamond can be set to control the depth.
Crystal tip MDA:
It uses aluminium oxide, sodium bicarbonate crystals to abrade off the dead layers of cells. The applied suction tip, suctions off the debris.
Choosing the right candidate

Strict sun protection:

Regular sunscreen use:
Using a broad spectrum sunscreen with minimum SPF of 30 is a must. Sunscreen has to be re applied every 3 hrly for effective sun protection. Water resistant sunscreens are preferred to prevent it from dripping off with the sweat.
Mild cleanser use:
use of harsh cleansers is avoided to prevent skin drying. Mild non allergic cleansers are best suited for post procedure use.
Moisturize liberally:
Use of allergen free bland moisturizers is advised to keep skin hydrated. This is also vital for the new skin being formed, to keep it hydrated.
Avoid heat/steam on face: any form of heat is to be avoided on the face, to prevent any reactions.
What to expect?
The treatment involves minimal downtime and gives instant results. Skin feels smoother with improved tone and texture. Multiple sessions are however recommended to achieve desired outcome. Post procedure care as explained by the doctor has to be strictly adhered to. Mild redness may be noted after the procedure, which settles in 1-2 hrs.
MDA procedure
