Mesotherapy

Mesotherapy

It’s a technique that involves microinjections of various serums and cosmeceuticals into the middle layer of the skin to promote healing or corrective treatment of a particular area of the body. It is a non surgical minimally invasive treatment option for conditions like alopecia (loss of hair), pigmentation, superficial scarring and for skin rejuvenation.

Mesotherapy for Hair

Although there is no denying the face that nutrients supplied to our body in form of food we eat works in the best and most sustainable way. But there are certain conditions of the hair wherein some form of specialised treatment is needed to augment the effect of medications and diet. Mesotherapy is one such treatment option for people suffering from chronic hair fall, be it androgenetic alopecia or telogen effluvium.

Mesotherapy Procedure

While doing mesotherapy treatment for the scalp, we either use a premade mix of vitamins, nutrients and other highly potent growth factors or use platelet rich plasma, which is delivered to the mesoderm layer of the scalp skin with the help of very fine meso syringes. It is an OPD procedure requiring 30 minutes to an hour. The need to anesthetize the area varies from patient to patient.

How Mesotherapy works

The delivery of these solution is directly in and around the hair follicles, thus stimulating the growth of new hair and providing nutrition to the weakened hair follicle. When used in combination with other modalities of treatments such as hair supplements, serums containing minoxidil, procapil etc. desired response can be seen within 4-8 weeks. The time actually varies from patient to patient. Some might take a bit longer depending upon their genetic makeup.

Mesotherapy for Face

Facial skin has a rich vasculature and that’s the reason why mesotherapy on the face works so wonderfully. We can use it to resolve many skin issues be it uneven skin tone, pigmentation, mild fine lines, dull & dehydrated skin. But the best way to utilise this for the facial skin is as a preventive therapy! Delaying the early signs of ageing, keeping the skin supple, firmer and radiant is what we are going for.

Mesotherapy Procedure

Just like for hair, we use either a freshly made platelet rich plasma solution (PRP) or custom made growth factor solutions and inject it into the facial skin using a fine meso needle. At times a dermaroller is also used. Now, about thirty minutes before the procedure, a numbing cream is applied on the face to make the entire procedure comfortable for the patient. This one is also an OPD procedure but it does makes the facial skin appear little pinkish to red, based upon one’s skin type, which might take 24-48 hours to resolve.

How Mesotherapy works

The delivery of these solutions is within the dermis, which is home to all the good stuff that makes the skin appear firmer & hydrated. These are collagen & elastin. These literally give structure to our skin. Mesotherapy results in remodelling of collagen and elastin, thus rejuvenating the skin.

Why is it important to consult a Dermatologist prior to getting a Mesotherapy treatment?

As mentioned earlier, the solutions used for mesotherapy are based upon individual requirement. At times, your dermatologist might also advice for custom made solutions for a particular type of skin or hair concern, which would eventually prove to be more effective. Also, it is a minor OPD procedure, which means that all the aseptic precautions need to be followed by a trained therapist while performing it. That is why it becomes necessary to have a prior appointment with your Dermatologist to discuss your issues. You might also have to use a few prescription strength medications before going for mesotherapy in order to get the maximum benefit out of it.

What to expect during the recovery period?

Since mesotherapy is non to minimally invasive, there is generally no downtime as far as the hair is concerned. In case of face mesotherapy there are chances of mild redness or swelling which can be easily taken care of by some ointments or oral meds if required.
